Arrangement
Monographs are arranged according to the Kovel’s internal indexing system and are divided into subseries based on the highest-level categories of that system. Each subseries includes a scope and contents note listing the relevant topics from the index. The indexing system begins with a number that corresponds to a general category. The categories are then refined by subcategories. Price lists are included throughout the collection and are indicated in the indexing system by a “P” preceding the category number. The categories are further subdivided by the first letter of the author’s last name. As an example, we can examine a box described as 2-2-B through 2-2-D. The first 2 indicates that the broad category is “Weapons.” The second 2 indicates that the subcategory is “guns.” The B and D indicate that the box contains books by authors with last names beginning with a B through authors with last names beginning with D.
Sometimes a single box includes items from two sequential categories. For example, one box may contain the end of category 12 and the beginning of category 13. When this happens, the box is listed under both relevant subseries.
