Biography
August F. Biehle (1885-1979) was a German-American artist working in Cleveland during the early 20th century. An influential member of what is known as the Cleveland School of Artists, Biehle made important contributions to the artistic character of the city during this era, including producing promotional and decorative materials for the prominent Kokoon Club. Additionally, Biehle worked prolifically on murals for the Pirchner Alpine theater and its El Dorado club, local schools, and restaurants, among others, many of which are represented in this collection by gouache sketches.
