Biography

Albert John Joseph Grossman was in financial administration at the CMA for thirty-seven years, from 1949 to 1986. He began as a cashier, advanced to comptroller, operations administrator and assistant treasurer, and finally assistant director for operations and finance. He earned an accounting certificate in 1952 by attending night school at Fenn College (now Cleveland State University). Grossman was a member of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce and the National Office Management Association.

Born in Cleveland, Grossman was of Czechoslovakian heritage. His first job, of brief duration, was in the circulation department at the Cleveland Press. He was then an accountant in the personal loan and finance department at the Cleveland Trust Company from 1939 to 1949, excluding his military service period. In World War II he served in the US Army Air Corps based in Italy from 1943 to 1945, achieving the rank of first lieutenant. For his participation in a perilous bombing mission in Austria he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Albert Grossman died at the age of 100 in 2022.
