Scope and Contents note Exhibition banners were displayed in the museum and outdoors around University Circle and downtown Cleveland to publicize current and upcoming major exhibitions. Most banners are made of vinyl although some of the earlier ones are canvas. Several are nylon or cloth. They have been rolled on cardboard tubes with unbuffered tissue paper to protect them. The museum began providing visitors the opportunity to comment on special exhibitions and permanent gallery installations in the 1990s. Comments are random musings and drawings. Some are not related to the museum at all but merely comments left because of the convenience of the books.Comment books were replaced by more formal questionnaires by the museum marketing department in 2011.

This is an artificially created collection of exhibitions organized and/or held at the Cleveland Museum of Art from 1916-1992. This collection combines records from all offices involved in the planning and execution of exhibitions. Offices are identified on file names or separation sheets within files. Exhibition files from 1992 forward are retained with the records of the offices of origin which are primarily unprocessed.

Scope and Contents note Dating primarily from the late 1980s through the early 2000s, this collection includes two series: 1) Text for label copy from special exhibitions and 2) permanent galleries. It also includes photocopies of labels that were removed from gallery walls during the museum renovation project in 2005. This is by no means a complete representation of museum object labels which may also be found in curatorial offices. The collection consists of four posters submitted by students of the Cleveland School of Arts to the museum under the auspices of Ralph King. The winning poster by Robert Roessler was to be used at the museum opening although there is no evidence of this, and the poster in the museum archives is an incomplete work.

Scope and Contents note The May Show records document the Exhibition of Artists and Craftsmen of the Western Reserve. They were created by the museum departments that directly administered the May Show, mainly the Director's Office, the Department of Modern Art and the Registrar's Office. The records reflect the activity both within and between museum departments. The collection is divided into eight series determined by originating office and medium. Includes files about exhibitions held at the Cleveland Museum of Art or another venue, canceled exhibitions, and proposed (or declined) exhibitions. They may also include gallery rotations, reinstallations, and recent acquisitions displays. Currently this collections is 52 cubic feet in 104 boxes.
