This is an artificial collection comprised of records pertaining to the construction of the Cleveland Museum of Art 1916 building, including the records of the temporary committees formed to plan the building and the records of the department that would evolve into buildings and grounds. The collection of materials was artificially brought together from materials gathered by Harold T. Clark, the buildings and grounds department, the director's office, and possibly other departments as well. Over time the original provenance and order of the of the records was lost. Clark stored many of the records in his office in downtown Cleveland, possibly because the museum was closed and had no where else to keep them, not necessarily because he was the records creator. This small collection consists primarily of records held by Harold T. Clark, museum attorney and president of the Board of Trustees. There is also a folder of Fine Arts Garden Commission minutes, correspondence with the Olmsted Brothers firm who designed the garden, and blueprints. Records of the Olmsted Associates relating to the design and installation of the Fine Arts Garden, ca. 1912-1928. This collection on microfilm was purchased from the Library of Congress in 2002. Additional records regarding the Olmsted Associate's involvement in the development of the Fine Arts Garden are available at the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site in Brookline, Massachusetts.
